Seattle Police Video Project

Update 10/6/11: The site is now working!  You can search for videos and logs.  It's still a little ugly.  Within the next few days, expect these improvements:

     * Cleaned up site design & appearance
     * Instructions and tips on how to read the logs
     * Links to interesting logs, such as those related to famous incidents
     * Statistical analysis and commentary related to the contents of the database

We are also working on integrating police incident data so that associated incident reports can be viewed along with logs.  More on this later...

Update 10/5/11: Rachner & Hulton v. Seattle Police Dept., et al. has just been filed.  The complaint can be viewed here.

For years, the Seattle Police Department has routinely concealed in-car video recordings from defendants, from citizens who complain about police misconduct, from the media, and from the public.

SPD has claimed that:

* Videos were not created, when they were.

*  Videos were routinely destroyed, when they were not.

*  It would be illegal to release video, when it would not be.

The Seattle Police Video Project is an independent effort to change all that, so that defendants, attorneys, the media, and interested citizens can easily obtain truthful, accurate information about in-car video recordings made by SPD.

We have obtained the entire database of activity logs for all in-car videos recorded from August 12, 2008, through August 17, 2011, and will update the database regularly as new data becomes available.  (Please note that while we have activity logs, we have no actual footage from these videos.)

You can search the database for activity logs about videos here:
